The year 2016 brought a great deal of change for the Grover Museum, including the addition two new exhibits: the Dr. Clifton Latshaw Gallery, an exhibit highlighting Shelby County’s history through photographs, and also displays equipment from the Strand Theatre; and the Shelby County Historical Gallery, filled with artifacts that showcase Shelby County’s history, including a log from the cabin of James Wilson, the county’s first settler.
With the addition of these wonderful galleries, the Shelby County Historical society is further able to live out its mission of “…collaborating within our communities to honor the history of the county by celebrating its past, engaging in the present, and inspiring the future.”
As we have continued to grow and utilize more of our facility, we have realized a very pressing need for more display cases. Having proper display cases allows us to safely and properly display items in our collection that we cannot currently display.
To accomplish this goal, we hope to find willing businesses or families to sponsor a case. Each sponsor will have their name on a plaque that would be permanently affixed to the front of the case. If you are interested in the project but aren’t able to give at a sponsorship level, please consider making a donation towards the fund. Every bit will help.
We will have a donor plaque in our main hallway with all of the donors listed. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the museum at 317-392-4634.
